Mancala Bar
The elongated form is framed by two rounded ends, creating a continuous body in which the shape curves in on itself. On the top surface, the circular elements introduce a sense of rhythm and position, akin to dots arranged in a precise sequence.
The reference to play is subtle, not literal. It is evident in the organisation of the volumes, in the alternation between solid and void, and in the way each detail seems to occupy a specific place within the composition.
The piece has a solid yet controlled presence. The central opening lightens the volume, whilst the curved sides stabilise the design and reinforce the idea of an architectural object. The stone placed on the top surface adds density and transforms the detail into a function.
‘Mancala’ shifts the focus away from the bar unit towards an experience of slow reading. A functional, graphic and discreet form, in which the decorative element serves a functional purpose.
